Water Monitoring
Three Experts Discuss the Future of Flow Monitoring at Wastewater Treatment Plants
May 15 2023
At ILM's Water, Wastewater and Environmental Monitoring (WWEM) event, Peter Baker of the Environment Agency and Cathy Boorer of Thames Water spoke on the future of flow monitoring in the water sector from both regulatory and industrial perspectives. After their talks, the speakers fielded questions from the audience and the moderator, Oliver Grievson, on topics as varied as the challenges of data management and whether the pandemic has obsolesced our previous understanding of 'normal years' in flow monitoring. Other areas of discussion include:
- Why is flow compliance at wastewater treatment works important?
- What could dry weather flow (DWF) compliance look like in 2026?
- Why are flow-to-full-treatment (FFT) compliance assessments being updated?
- What is the difference between FFT and flow passed forward (FPF) tests?
- What are the expectations for U_INV2 investigations?
- What if your overflow operates only on short bursts?
- What are the benefits of improving the regulations of flow management at wastewater treatment works?
- Is FFT properly understood yet?
- What are some the current data measurement challenges?
