Dual-sensor gas detection technology provides dependable and cost-efficient safety in a hazardous industrial location

Nov 08 2023

International Gas Detectors (IGD) has announced a successful new case study in collaboration with Jigsaw Controls, a company that supplies electrical equipment for use in areas at risk of fire or explosion hazards.

Jigsaw's customer operated a complex, on-site process that required some of the best technology and expertise available. This process required a welding shelter, or habitat station, because of hot works being carried out in a hazardous area. Jigsaw Controls provided pressurised control systems to pump clean air into these shelters, and IGD installed their highly advanced TOC-903-X5 dual gas detector transmitter to enhance and ensure the safety of these areas.

The TOC-903-X5 was ideal for this application due to its dual-sensor capabilities, enabling the detection of the dual hazards of methane and hydrogen sulphide onsite, from a single point. This reduced the cost of the project significantly as well as fitting efficiently into the system. The TOC-903-X5 is also ATEX-rated for zones 1 and 2, allowing for safe operation in a hazardous location. The TOC-903-X5 was easily integrated into the existing system. As a result, the detection of methane or hydrogen sulphide instigated the shutdown of the air supply, ensuring the safety of personnel working in the shelters.
